Accreditation
The National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) is an independent nonprofit accrediting agency ensuring the quality and integrity of educational programs that prepare professionals to work in the laboratory. Through its voluntary accrediting and approval processes, it contributes to the improvement of the public’s health. It was established in 1973 as the successor to the Board of Schools (BOS) of the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) in cooperation with the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (ASCLS). Later the National Society for Histotechnology (NSH) and the Association of Genetic Technologists (AGT) became participating organizations and the American Association of Pathologists’ Assistants (AAPA) as an affiliated organization. The agency develops Standards against which programs are evaluated, monitors their progress toward improvement, and provides consultation and training to assure entry level professional outcomes. The work of the agency is carried out by three review committees, a Board of Directors, Executive Office staff and hundreds of volunteers. |
